Project of the Month - A Teenagers Dream Bath
April 20, 2011 at 1:43 PM

A bath for two teenage girls that provides a roomy shower and ample storage was the goal with this project. The design challenge was how to fit it all into the space, which, although generous in size, was rather long and narrow. And, although this was a kids’ bath, the homeowner wanted a space that was elegant enough to serve as a guest bath.
The rectangular floor plan lent itself to a corner shower arrangement to allow enough room to enter and exit the shower comfortably. Separate sinks were placed on the opposite wall with ample room for vanity seating in between. What really takes center stage in this room though is a new freestanding clawfoot tub. The tub ups the drama factor, provides a functional place for bathing, and gets rid of the need for a bulky tub deck. In addition, an awkward corner toilet was moved to a better position against the wall allowing room for additional storage.
Brown limestone floors & walls, creamy cabinetry, oil rubbed bronze fixtures, lighting and hardware as well as a decorative tile relief outlining the shower door all help to give the bath an elegant feel. Purple glass floor tile accents and bright wall color keep the room feeling fun and youthful with a pop of color.
